Work Permit
A work permit is the commonly used term to describe the legal permission given to a foreign national that allows them to work legally in another country.
The process for assessing and granting work permit applications varies across Europe though there are a number of requirements that are quite usual, for instance:-
- The company proposing to employ you must apply for your work permit
- A job advert may have to be placed to see if an EU national is suitable for the role before you can be offered the job
- In some cases the permit is limited to you working for a specific company for a specific period
- A minimum salary level will sometimes be specified by the local authorities
Highly Skilled Worker / Highly Qualified Professionals
There is a recognised shortage of certain skills in the workforce across Europe and this work permit (Blue Card) is a combined work and residence visa which has been specially designed to attract highly-skilled and/or highly-educated workers who are not citizens of an EU member state.
To qualify to work in the EU for an initial period of four years the following conditions must be met (requirements in different countries may vary):-
- The applicant must possess a college diploma or have completed five years occupational training
- The applicant must be in possession of an employment contract or a job offer
- Gross income must be at least 50 percent above the national average
